In 2020 and 2021

 

Apart from organizing online Welcome Sessions for new PhD students once a week, ACIDE has not been able to organize any entertainment activities, because of Covid-19!

 

In 2019

Entertainment activities:

  • Organization of Welcome Sessions for new PhD students once a week
  • Joint barbecue with researchers from the Innovation Park
  • EPFL doctoral students and post-docs participated in a joint barbecue with Innovation Park researchers in June 2019. Another social and festive moment that was greatly appreciated by the participants
  • Presentations of the various companies of the Innovation Park
  • PhD ball
  • Due to the defection of the usual sponsors (EPFL-RH, Doctoral School), ACIDE-ComDoc has decided not to organize the annual PhD Ball
  • Ski weekend: Again due to a lack of sponsorship for this event, ACIDE could not organize the traditional ski weekend.

 

In 2018

Entertainment activities:

  • In 2018, EDOC organized two welcome days for new PhD students. Emmanuel Cledat presented ACIDE as a representative of the doctoral student members of ACIDE ComDoc
  • A visit to CERN
  • A barbecue with the researchers of the Innovation park
  • Participation in “Meet Innovation Park
  • Participation in “Demoday@La Forge: co-working space and its acceleration programs
  • PhD ball
  • Due to the defection of the usual sponsors (EPFL-RH, Ecole doctoral), ACIDE-ComDoc has given up organizing the annual PhD Ball.
  • Ski weekend: Again due to a lack of sponsorship for this event, ACIDE could not organize the traditional ski weekend.

 

In 2017

Entertainment activities:

  • Two visits to CERN
  • PhD Ball
  • BBQ with the ACIDUL association of UNIL
  • BBQ with the researchers of the Innovation Park
  • A Visit to the Hublot watchmaking company
  • Ski weekend: Due to a lack of sponsorship for this event, ACIDE was unable to organize the traditional ski weekend.

 

In 2016
Entertainment activities:

  • One ski weekend (Thyon-4 Vallées)
  • Two CERN visits
  • Vivapoly booth
  • PhD Ball

Meeting with VP of VPRI, M. Schneider, at the beginning of the year, to talk about salary reduction for employee non-NSS. According to M. Schneider, this reduction comes from budget restrictions and it has been decided to decrease about 50% the incremental salary in 2016 for new PhD and post-doc. Unfortunately, unlike what M. Schneider has said during the last meeting, the measure has been applied not only to newly hired employees but also for already contracted PhDs and post-docs.

Une rencontre de l’ACIDE-ComDoc avec la Doyenne de l’EDOC
In December 2013, ACIDE members met EDOC dean, Prof. Cathrin Brisken. After a brief presentation of ACIDE to the new dean, we talked about the followings topics:

    • Teaching – Problems with teaching assistance
    • Hiring days – EDOC position
    • Mentoring – Non-uniformity between faculties
    • LNCO laboratory moving to Geneva – Lack of information
    • Rapprochement with AVETH – Available fund
    • ACIDE funding – Automatic membership subscription for PhD student
    • Accommodation – Serious problem for PhD student
    • Crédit Suisse on EPFL campus – Problem with student account for PhD student

In December 2012, ACIDE members met EDOC dean, Prof. Cathrin Brisken. After a brief presentation of ACIDE to the new dean, we talked about the followings topics:

    • Automatic membership fees for all new PhD students.
    • Conflicts with thesis supervisors.
    • Mentoring system.
    • Holiday entitlement
    • Teaching participation
    • Accommodation

  • In March 2009, it carried out a survey about the language center at EPFL and discussed the results with the responsibles.
  • In June 2008, ACIDE-ComDoc defended a special meal price for PhD candidates.
  • In May 2008, ACIDE-ComDoc together with GSA ( I&C Graduate Student Association) invited J. Cham, the author of PhD Comics, to give a talk at EPFL.
  • In June 2007, it initiated a collective standpoint on the ordinance related to the law on foreigners, with the objective of facilitating the employment of foreign Phd candidates at the end of their thesis. This standpoint was signed by the President of the CEPF, the Presidents of the EPF’s at Lausanne and Zurich, the Presidents of the School Assemblies of both EPF’s, the Presidents of all associations at EPFL and by other associations of students and researchers in Switzerland.
  • At the beginning of 2007, and within the framework of the new PhD candidates’ status, it successfully defended the remuneration of the PhD candidates. More details may be found on the website of the School Assembly (link below).
  • Since 2006 the ACIDE-ComDoc is organizing social events for PhD candidates:
    • Barbecue in the summer
    • Hiking trip during the faun season
    • Ski weekends during the winter
  • At the end of 2006, the commission organized a survey about the new status of PhD candidates at EPFL and their new salary system proposed by the School Management.
  • At the beginning of 2006, the commission published the first version of the Practical Guide for PhD Student at EPFL.
  • At the end of 2005, the commission studied the results of the survey of PhD candidates at EPFL and drafted a series of propositions that they submitted to the Management of EPFL in order to improve the situation of PhD students.
